Student Disability and Inclusion?provides?specialist support for students with specific learning differences (SpLDs) such as?dyslexia and?dyspraxia?and who may identify as neurodivergent. Study skills support is an opportunity to meet 1:1 with a specialist practitioner for practical study advice and support.

Specialist Study Skills practitioners?can help you?to?develop the skills needed for effective study.?This includes?exploring?your strengths and current study methods,?as well as helping you to?put in place strategies for managing?the areas you may find more challenging.

You can access study skills support in two ways. Either by booking a 30-minute appointment via Specialist Study Skills Drop-In, or by contacting studenthub@soton.ac.uk to arrange a 1-hour appointment.

Support?includes helping?you?to?develop:

- Organisation?and?prioritisation?skills.
- A purposeful and critical reading process.
- An understanding of different?types?of?assistive technology software.
- Effective note-taking & note-making methods.
- Multi-sensory revision & memory strategies.
- Exam techniques.
- Writing skills?including:?unpicking questions and learning outcomes, paragraph structuring, writing for different genres, paraphrasing, synthesizing evidence, and using academic expression.

Please note:

If you are seeking help with a specific assignment, we would encourage you?to engage with study skills support at the beginning of the assignment writing process.

We are not able to proof-read your work or read your whole assignment. Instead, we will work with you to develop your own proof-reading?strategy?and techniques for structuring your ideas and arguments; you can then apply these skills to the rest of your?assignment.
