Undergraduate applications

Applications for entry to our undergraduate courses can be submitted through UCAS.

Application steps

Applying to university is an exciting time with lots to think about. With this in mind, we have created these steps as a guide to simplify the process.

Step 1: Key dates and deadlines

For courses starting in September 2025

3 September 2024:

From this date, you can submit your applications to UCAS for?2025 entry.

15 October 2024 - Medicine courses:

All applications to medicine courses?need to be submitted by 15 October.

If you apply after 15 October, your application?will not be considered. For Medicine courses you also have to complete the University clinical aptitude test (UCAT) before applying.

29 January 2025 - majority of other courses:

This?is the 'equal consideration' deadline?for most undergraduate courses.

If you apply after 29 January, we may not be able to consider your application.

30 June 2025 – Final closing date for all new UCAS applications for 2025 entry

If you apply for 2025 entry after this deadline, you will automatically be entered into Clearing.

Step 2: Before you apply

Make sure the course is right for you

Making sure the course is right for you is essential. Review the course structure, modules and other information. Don't be afraid to ?get in touch if you have any questions, we're always happy to help.

Entry requirements and qualifications

It is important that you check that your qualifications are accepted, your grades are in line with the course entry requirements, and to check if your course has any extra requirements. If you are an international student please also advise check the English language requirements before applying.

Step 3: Preparing for your application

UCAS information

For 2025 entry, the application fee is ?28.50 for up to five choices.

When you apply through UCAS, you will be asked for an institution name and number and course code. Having the UCAS information ready will make things quicker:

  • our code name is SOTON
  • our number is S27
  • course code can be found on the course page
Personal statement

Start preparing your personal statement before you apply. For some inspiration and expert advice, check out 'Top tips for writing a personal statement ' from our Director of Admissions and VISAS.

Step 4: Applying and response times

Submitting an application

All undergraduate applicants, including international students will need to apply online with UCAS . Once you have applied, UCAS will send you an acknowledgement email and forward your application to us. We will let you know that your application has been received and is being processed.

Application response

We aim to process your application within two to six weeks, but this will depend on when you submit it. Applications submitted in January, particularly near to the UCAS equal consideration deadline, might take substantially longer to be processed due to the high volume received at that time.

Some courses have extra steps, for instance an interview or portfolio review, so may take longer than the standard time. Applicants to medicine will hear the outcome of their application by the end of March.

Step 5: What happens next?

After you apply

You will be sent an invitation to an Offer holder Visit Day* either after you apply or if you are made an offer to study, depending on your course and the time of year that you apply. This will allow you to talk to academics and tour the labs, studios and lecture theatres in which you'll be studying.

For some subjects you may be required to attend an interview. If this is the case, you will be contacted directly by the faculty.

*Please note, Offer holder Visit Days do not generally take place from May to October but there are other ways you can visit us.

If you are made an offer

Congratulations if you have been made an offer to study with us. Depending on when you applied, you will have a deadline to reply to your offers by. Make sure to check your offer, as some courses have extra conditions, for instance healthcare and medicine courses.

All decision deadlines can be found on the UCAS website.

Deferred entry

If you wish to take a gap year, your application will be considered in the normal way, but for entry in 2026 the conditions must have been met in the summer of 2025.

Please note, Winchester School of Art does not accept deferred applications. However, in exceptional circumstances WSA can defer entry to the following year once you have been offered a place, have accepted it as your firm choice, and met all your conditions.

Medicine accepts initial deferred applications, but any further request after application, is on a case by case basis.
