This module integrates the four core areas of physiotherapy studied within clinical management, cardiorespiratory, neurology, musculoskeletal and special client groups.

Having successfully completed this module you will be able to:
- As a self-motivated learner, you will appraise your own learning and contribute effectively to working in small study groups to further expand your knowledge.
Knowledge and Understanding
Having successfully completed this module, you will be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of:
- Reflect and discuss the application and modification of physiotherapy assessment and management techniques (of all three specialisms), and apply these concepts to multi-pathological clinical case studies.
Subject Specific Intellectual and Research Skills
Having successfully completed this module you will be able to:
- Critically analyse and evaluate the psychosocial, cultural and the ethical context as it relates to the patient and their management.
- Develop critical thinking and analytical skills of trustworthy rigorous evidence based practice (EBP).
- Justify the relevant concepts of EBP to the physiotherapy management of multi pathological case studies.
Disciplinary Specific Learning Outcomes
Having successfully completed this module you will be able to:
- Discuss the importance of patient involvement in planning treatment and take into consideration psychological, ethical and cultural information pertinent for the patients’ presentation.
Syllabus
- Integrated study of biological, physical, behavioural and clinical sciences that is applied in a critical, reflective manner to patient centred care
- Application of the clinical sciences across integrated clinical cases
- Appreciation of ethical, moral and legal issues
- Mechanisms of pain and dysfunction in more complex clinical conditions
- The use and application of a comprehensive range of physiotherapeutic treatment modalities
- Health promotion and health education strategies integrated into clinical practice
- Rehabilitative strategies in the more complex clinical case that maximises human potential and quality of life across a range of case from palliative care to the elite athlete
- Selective use of validated assessment methods
- Reflecting on prior learning in an iterative way, bringing examples of learning from previous Practice Placements
Learning and Teaching
Teaching and learning methods
Learning will be achieved through the study of simulated case studies that will facilitate the GDL process. Examples of such cases at this level to guide the development of the ability to apply professional knowledge and skills might include:
- Greg Payne is a 28 year-old father of 2 with a 12 year history of increasing disability as a result of chronic low back pain that is now associated with compression and loss of function of the L5 and S1 nerve roots. He has been unable to work for some months and there are financial and relationship issues.
- A 15 year-old girl who sustains a brachial plexus injury having been thrown from a stolen motor cycle.
- A 48 year-old diabetic man in poor health with a diabetic neuropathy and associated ulceration of the lower limb that eventually results in a below knee amputation being required.
- A 21 year-old girl with an incomplete lower cervical spinal cord lesion.
- Zac is now 65 years old. He has an acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis and emphysema. Mechanical ventilation is required
