Current research
Cheuk Yu Mak’s current research focuses on symplectic topology with a special emphasis on the interaction with low dimensional topology, mirror symmetry, and geometric representation theory. Cheuk Yu Mak uses Floer theory and the Fukaya category to study symplectic manifolds and Lagrangian submanifolds. It leads to a symplectic interpretation of the Bernstein-Gelfand-Gelfand category O which underlies the Khovanov homology of links, a solution to the non-simplicity of the area preserving homeomorphism group of a surface, and new non-displaceability phenomena for Lagrangian submanifolds.
