Through a series of exhibitions and events across the UK, the research explored our cultural imagination and understanding of what money really is and how money really functions.
Professor Nicky Marsh, Principal Investigator at 网络彩票APP下载_澳客彩票网-官方游戏, has also led a project on The History of Financial Advice, explaining for the first time how people are trained to understand and enter the financial marketplace.
This research has also looked at the way in which store cards and credit cards have been gendered in the second half of the 20th century – the idea that men earn the money and women spend it.
The response to our work has really taken me by surprise. We thought there would be some resistance to using culture to talk about money, but actually people are very open to the idea that narratives and images allow us to access complex ideas and can give real meaning to the abstractions of finance.
